The Central Event

The central event in all of history is the death of Jesus Christ. He chose to die the death that we deserved to die. Having died for the sake of all people, He offers to us His life of joy in glory for all eternity. "Also they teach that men cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works, but are freely justified for Christ's sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor, and that their sins are forgiven for Christ's sake, who, by His death, has made satisfaction for our sins. This faith God imputes for righteousness in His sight. Rom. 3 and 4." (Art. IV, Augsburg Confession)

Our Provider

The first of the two Bible illustrations depict Elijah being fed in the wilderness where food was brought to the prophet by ravens to sustain him. (1 Kings 17:6)

The second illustration to the far right shows the angel coming to strengthen Jesus as He prepares to be betrayed, tried, and hung on a cross. (Luke 22:43) Only three days later Jesus would be raised from the dead and send His disciples to bring the Gospel to the world.

The Word Incarnate

This is Jesus, the Son of God, who also spoke all things into existence. From Glory, Jesus came to earth being born of the virgin Mary . He began His ministry by being recognized as "The Lamb of God who comes to take away the sin of the world." With that He set his face toward Jerusalem and the cross.

The illustration to the right took place on the Sea of Gallilee. The disciples were fishermen by trade. While being afraid of the strom on the lake, they were more astonished that Jesus calmed the wind and stilled the sea.
